Opportunity for
- Proposals for the review of APL's leadership and training programs to increase capability and capacity across the Australian Pork Industry by improving the visibility, accessibility, alignment and effectiveness of training and leadership development pathways.
Opportunity description
Industry challenge
Leadership and training are essential to driving change and sustaining a productive, resilient and trusted Australian Pork Industry. Strong industry capacity and capability support effective decision making, innovation, workforce retention, biosecurity preparedness, safety, and community confidence across the pork value supply chain.
Leadership within the Australian Pork Industry is not limited to senior management, boards or peak industry roles. It must occur at all levels of the industry — including on-farm, in processing, supply chains, technical services and regional communities with individuals learning and developing in different ways.
The Australian pork industry operates in a highly regulated, technically complex, and continuously evolving environment, shaped by biosecurity risks, animal welfare expectations, market pressures, workforce availability, and sustainability requirements. Ongoing, industry-specific training is essential to ensure producers, managers, and emerging leaders have the skills and capability to respond effectively to these challenges and to adopt best practice across production, people management, and compliance.
Targeted training and leadership development support consistent standards across the industry, strengthen decision-making at all levels, and enable the translation of research, innovation, and policy into on-farm outcomes. A coordinated and contemporary approach to training will help build a resilient, skilled workforce, support succession and leadership capability, and ensure the long-term productivity and competitiveness of the Australian pork industry.
